Just a Reflection

Lost inside this puzzle

swirling inside the wheel

that spins inside the wheel of wheels

where I tease myself with complexity

the tease teasing the tease

in my fractured fractal omnipotence

unaware of the parts that make me whole

too relaxed to see what is tense

too tense to see what is relaxed

merrily rolling along in my boat of dreams

crying all the way to the falls

fretting over nothing at all

choosing closed eyes

and a quiet mouth

that never even bothers to ask

so the questions in need go unanswered

and the answered unasked questions

are seldom listened to enough

except in free fall

when the tether breaks

and the ripcord fails

or the chord rips

littering inharmonious notes around

in a jagged jazz salad of discord

and that is where we were born

my feathered friends and foes

supposedly we walk here

in the jungle gym of hope and dispair

abounding and resounding

sit me down still a while

and make the voice that speaks listen

through ears yet ungrown

unaccustomed to knowing

blabbing their way along

without reading the signposts

that we left ourselves so profusely
in plain sight easily seen for the looking

as those occastional parts of us that observe

say a particularly quiet prayer to no one in particular

as another day opens and closes at the same seam

stitched in timeless cadence marching into eternity

where I once glimpsed your face in mine

and mistook you for a mirror

though really you were

just a reflection

of all that is
